Downhill

A few days ago, shooting for a remake of the Swedisch film success "Force Majeure" (directed by Ruben Östlund) entitled "Downhill" - directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (Academy Award-winning screenplay for "The Descendents" with George Clooney) - started in Austria.

In the main roles of the couple Peter and Billie are the US stars Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, whose outwardly perfect family life gets out of balance when they narrowly escape a (controlled) avalanche during a holiday with their children in the Austrian Alps. An instincitve reaction from Peter questions his role as father and husbnd, causing emotional collapse and comedic power struggles.

Shooting locations are the Tyrolean communities of Fiss, Ischgl and Kaunertal, in addition two weeks of filming in hall 1 of the former Rosenhügel studios of Wien Film are planned. Around 160 crew members are involved in the project, including numerous Austrian filmmakers and local service providers. In addition to a domestic value added of around 7 million euros, nearly 10.000 overnight stays are expected in the regions.

Location Austria is pleased to have successfully brought the project to Austria after a one-and-a-half-year trial with Fox Searchlight and a rivalry with countries such as France, Italy, Norway or Canada.

"Downhill" is financially supported by FISA – Film Industry Support Austria and Cine Tirol.

Pictures follow.
