The Film Location With Many Facets
Lake Hallstatt, Upper Austria

New Incentive

The previous lack of an effective instrument to increase value creation in Austria, to attract foreign production and to create qualified jobs has so far caused film productions to migrate to neighboring countries and thus the loss of value creation, know-how and skilled workers at home.

From January 1st, 2023, an incentive for film productions without a budgetary cap is to come into force, which will strengthen Austria as a film location in international comparison and also close the streaming gap.

A non-repayable subsidy of up to 35 percent of the expenditure in Austria is planned - 5 percent of it for the consideration of climate-friendly criteria.

A maximum of EUR 5 million can be subsidized per film and EUR 7.5 million per series.

The model is based on 3 pillars:

  • International service productions in cinema, TV & streaming (FISA+)
  • Austrian TV and streaming productions (FISA+; TV in coordination with RTR)
  • Austrian cinema films (ÖFI+)

The FILM in AUSTRIA team is delighted with this major step towards strengthening Austria as film location!

I like the place here a lot.
There is so much snow which is really beautiful.
